Things I like

🔨
Work in progress

This is a non-exhaustive list of things I like. It will not include everything but I'll try to include many.

Playable art

NieR Replicant

Halo (1-3)

This is a personal childhood favourite of mine, The story is not very good but the game has a strong sense of atmosphere and has just a nice heroic vibe to it. It's just a lot of fun to play.

The Longing (Website)

This game was a comfort for me. Coming back to it day after day made the little guy protagonist quite endearing and comforting. I wish the game did not end.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

This game's story does not take itself seriously and it's a fuckton of fun. The soundtrack is a banger and the gameplay is really addictive.

Hitman (1-3)

I really don't care about the story of Hitman. I just find the challenge to be fun.

A Summer's End - Hong Kong 1986 (Website)

I need to replay it to write my thoughts better. That said, from memory, it was a very cute queer story.

2064: Read Only Memories (Website)

I need to replay it to write my thoughts better. I remember finding it a lot of fun and thinking that the voice acting was a really nice addition for a visual novel-like game.

Growtopia

Once upon a time, this game consumed my life. The sandbox and social aspects of the game made it really fun. There was always something to work towards, always a place to create. Of course, even back when I played it, it had its own issues with scammers and just shitty people. That said, it felt like a team of people really believed and wanting this project to go well. I'm still pretty sad about the downward spiral it's been in since the acquisition by Ubisoft. I can't recommend anymore.

Animated art

Steins;Gate

Mob Psycho 100

Legend of the Galactic Heroes (The original anime)

Code Geass

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End

Sonny Boy

Kiki's Delivery Service

I've written previously about Kiki but the simple way to put it is that it is a pretty simple story that manages to explore the topic of burnout in a pretty lighthearted way. I really like it.

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind

Paprika

Pluto

Drawn Art

Satoshi Kon's Opus

Smoking behind the supermarket with you (Manga)

The art of Ilya Kurshinov (Eternal, Momentary)

I have copies of Eternal and Momentary. I find the art in them and the square aspect ratio to be, as he puts it, very personal feeling. It feels inspiring, close and raw. My biggest criticism is that the focus on beautiful women in the art books feels very objectifying.

Code art

GNOME (Website)

GNOME is a desktop environment for Linux which I use everyday and love. I really like its principled approach to design and its insistence to remove options which provide no use. It's not for everyone but it is for me. I also very much like its code of conduct and how it is not scared to take a political stance.

Readwise Reader (Website)

Readwise reader is an RSS Reader as well as read-it-later app. I really like the combination, I like how fast it is and how well designed it is. I don't like the inclusion of AI in it but I do like that it is not VC-funded.
